The newly-established Zhengzhou University (ZZU) was founded on July 10，2000 after combination of the former Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou Industrial University and Henan Medical University. ZZU is now a comprehensive university with a complete structure of disciplines, ranging from science, engineering, medicine, arts, history, philosophy to law, economics and administration, etc. Run by the People’s Government of Henan Province, Zhengzhou University (ZZU) ，located at No.100, Kexuedadao Road, Zhengzhou City, Henan，boasts of a total area of about 939 acres and four campuses: Main Campus (No.100, Kexuedadao Road, Zhengzhou City), South Campus (No.75, Daxuebeilu Road, Zhengzhou City), North Campus (No. 97, Wenhua Road, Zhengzhou City), and East Campus (No. 40, Daxuebeilu Road, Zhengzhou City). 

Targeting the whole China for admission, ZZU embraces a wide range of enrollment of over 55, 000 full-time undergraduates, over 15, 000 full-time postgraduates of all kinds and some 1, 800 international students from more than 116 countries and regions. ZZU is on the list of National “211 Project” of key construction universities, and of “One Province, One University” of National Key Support Construction Universities, as well as of co-construction universities by Henan Province and Ministry of Education. 

In September of 2017, ZZU entered the construction sequence of National World First-class Universities. Standing at this new historic starting line, ZZU decided its location of running school to be comprehensive & research-oriented, and laid down a three-step development strategy, striving to build a world first-class comprehensive research-oriented university by the middle of this century. Medical education of ZZU could date back to the establishment of National No.5 Sun Yat-sen University in 1928, whose medicine discipline became an independent institution, and was renamed “Henan Medical College” in 1952, hence breaking a new ground for Henan modern medical education. 

The former ZZU, the first comprehensive university established by new China in 1956, was approved to enter National “211 Project” list in 1996. Zhengzhou University of Technology (ZUT), a national key university founded in 1963, was under the direct leadership of the former Ministry of Chemical Industry. A new ZZU was born in July 2000 when the former ZZU, ZUT and Henan Medical University (HMU) merged into one. 

A large number of distinguished scholars and experts have come to teach or work at this university, such as Prof. Ji Wenfu, an educator, historian and philosopher, Prof. Huo Bingquan, a physicist, Prof. Hou Debang, a chemist, Academician Zhong Xiangchong from Chinese Academy of Sciences, an expert in refractory, Prof. Sun Guoliang, an expert in civil engineering, Prof. Dong Minsheng, an expert in otolaryngology, Prof. Shen Qiong, the founder of the esophageal cytology, and Prof. Su Shouzhi, an expert in the human parasitology. The long history of ZZU has cultivated its own distinctive culture. Rooted in the broad and profound culture of the Central Plains of China, ZZU people have inherited and developed the virtues of tolerance, lenience and can-do and can-go spirit; Multicultural have thrived on blending and symbiosis here. 

ZZU students come from 31 provinces and autonomous regions in China, as well as over 116 countries and regions in the world, hence generating a cultural atmosphere integrated of multi-regional, multi-ethical and multi-cultural elements; a balanced development of the 12 disciplines of liberal arts, science and engineering has engendered a favorable atmosphere of cultivation, characterized by inter-disciplinary action and inter-complementation;

While strengthening the construction of its own culture, ZZU also stresses its societal role of guiding culture, striving to make new contributions for the inheritance and innovation of Chinese civilization.
