About Medical University
The Ateneo de Zamboanga University (Filipino: Pamantasang Ateneo de Zamboanga), also referred to by its acronym AdZU is a private Catholic Coeducational basic and higher education institution run by the Philippines Province of the Society of Jesus in Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines. AdZU began in 1912 as Escuela Catolica, a parochial school run by Spanish Jesuits. It is the second oldest Jesuit school in the Philippines and the second Jesuit school to be named Ateneo.
It initially offered primary and secondary education for boys. It became a college in 1952 and a university in August 2001. It operates in three campuses. The main campus located in La Purisima Street, Zamboanga City is where the tertiary and senior high school departments are located and the annex campus in Barangay Tumaga, outside Zamboanga City proper, is where the junior high school and grade school units are located. The third and newest campus is the Lantaka Campus located in N. S. Valderroza St. Zamboanga City. This campus was a former resort hotel which was repurposed by the AdZU. It is now being used for educational, spiritual, religious, and social development purposes.
Overview
The call for “Health for All” articulated in the Alma Ata Charter is a formidable goal but with great potential for triggering convergence towards “Unity for Health”. But 20 years after this charter’s inception, the need for health reforms convergence bringing medical schools on board is still in want. Although medical schools have been highly criticized as isolated “ivory towers”, lacking in proactive contributions to society’s health needs, academic institutions actually have the potential to address the complex issues of health unity and therefore can create synergies between the community, health professionals, health managers, and policy makers towards ‘Unity for Health”. We report here, the convergence of various stakeholders in establishing an innovative medical school in the Southern Philippines.

The units of AdZU together have dozens of student organizations that cater to a wide variety of preferences, ranging from advocacy and humanitarian groups such as institutional chapters of Rotary International's Interact to niche interests such as debate and worship music.
In addition, the different Schools (including undergraduate, professional, and basic education schools) have Academic Organizations (AOs) that manage the specific needs of students in a given School. These AOs are instrumental in rallying students from these schools together for matters of interest and importance, as well as organizing teams for sports festivals and other intra-University activities.
The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) opens a study now, pay later loan program for the college education of its members’ relatives.Php20 billion has been allocated to help families provide quality education for their students.
The scholarship covers tuition and other school fees at an 8% interest rate.The GSIS Financial Assistance Loan – Educational Loan (GFAL-Loan) is open to all active members with at least 15 years of service, and offers a 10 year loan term with 5 years grace period for two beneficiaries.

Hostel And Mess Facilities available at Ateneo de Zamboanga university Philippines
University has a very good hostel campus with free Wifi access. Accommodations for students are available as singles, doubles and triples. Additionally, there are separate hostels for women and men. All hostels are furnished with beds, chairs, tables, and other necessary items. Facilities within the campus include a supermarket, a clinic, a pharmacy, etc. The hostel is monitored by CCTV 24 hours a day. For Indian students on campus, Mess is also available. All students are subject to strict hostel rules. The hostel also serves Indian food.
