David Aghmashenebeli University of Georgia Ltd (DAUG – hereinafter), have a 30-year history within the modern Georgian education space, maintains national and universal values and is oriented on turning intellectual resources towards the country's integration into European sphere and its successful development.
Foundation of the University is related to the idea of the restoration of Georgia's independence and developing Socially Secured Society in 1987, and on this bases establishing the Society "Support and Raise" on July 11, 1991, by its Rector, Prof. Teimuraz Koridze together with the partners, who left the Communist Party.
The aim of the society was to release the country from communist ideas and ideology, to hasten the transition process into the free-market economy, devoid of administrative-command system and to engage the youth in building free and independent state. The Society "Support and Raise" combined the country's honoured scholars, who established the first private higher educational institution in Georgia "David Agmashenebeli Tbilisi Engineering-Economic Institute" led by Professor Teimuraz Koridze, blessed by His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia. In 1992, according to the founders' decision, the name of the institute was changed and it is named as “David Aghmashenebeli University of Georgia".
The University carried out the study programmes in Medicine, Dentistry, Law, Journalism, Economics, Business Administration, Finance and Banking, Tourism, English Philology and Engineering. According to the Decree N 65/A of the Accreditation Council of Higher Education Institutions of Georgia, dated on October 16, 2006, David Aghmashenebeli University of Georgia was awarded the institutional accreditation in 2007-2008 academic year.
According to the Decree N83 of the Authorization Council of Educational Institutions in 2011, the status of the higher education institution was granted to David Aghmashenebeli University of Georgia in 2012-2013 academic year. In 2007 the University has become a member of the Europe Business Assembly and for his activity prof. Teimuraz Koridze was rewarded with the “Socrates International Award”.
In the conditions of modern integration, global challenges and increased competitiveness DAUG has been established as an educational and scientific hub with international standards, providing high-quality education with the perspective of its permanent development and improvement; it promotes the University’s awareness and development within the country, region (Caucasus) and internationally; contributes to the preparation of specialists with relevant competencies to modern requirements through student’s personal and professional development.
Since 2011, the University has been operating all education cycles of higher education – Bachelor’s Degree programmes of Law, Business Organization and Management, Financing and Banking, Tourism, Information Technology, Journalism, English Philology and International Relations, a one-cycle programme of Medicine, Dentistry, professional preparation programs, Master’s programmes of Law, Criminal Law, Business Administration, Journalism and International Relations, and Doctoral programmes in Medicine and Economics.
The University has the modern standard building, the lecture rooms, the conference halls and sports halls, the press club, the computer centres, the library with the rich books’ fund and electronic resources, the mock courtroom, the forensic laboratory, the Georgian-English Dental Clinic, the virtual simulation laboratory, the first aid training centre, the authorized broadcasting "Sdasu TV" and "Sdasu Radio" equipped with the modern high-technology.
The highly qualified professors and relevant structural units of the University provide the effective utilization of existing material-technical resources. The centres equipped with the recent technologies, laboratories, conference halls and press club promote the development of students' practical skills, enhancement of knowledge and increase of competitiveness.

About the School
The goal of the school is to give students the knowledge-oriented to humanist ideals adequate to the international medical standards; developing clinical skills; use of scientific principles, methods, and knowledge of biomedicine in medical practice and research; acquisition of theories, concepts, and methods of disease diagnostics and basic principles of treatment and prophylaxis; development of clinical thinking; realizing the necessity of perpetually renewed knowledge and incessant professional development; developing ethical and legal values important for a doctor.
A graduate has the right to be employed as a junior doctor by an independent person licensed to practice medicine, join pedagogic and scientific work, study further for a doctorate degree or pass the full residency course and, after passing the unified state exam, work in their field, so that, according to the medical standards and traditions and ethical norms recognized in the country, they can serve with dignity the public health.

The study programme “General Medicine” aims at providing students with the knowledge of democracy and humanism ideals oriented on the international medical standards to develop the relevant competences; developing the clinical and communication skills; giving the knowledge about the public health care system and understanding of the role of the doctor in this system; working out the group work, clear formulation of tasks, coordination of activities of group members and adequate evaluation, professional subordination, conflict and force majeure situation management skills; using the biomedical scientific principles, methods and knowledge in medical practice and research; using the basic principles, theories, concepts and methods of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease; developing the clinical thinking; working out the ability to collect the appropriate information, develop, analyse and formulate a reasonable conclusion; introducing the need for continuing improvement of knowledge and life-long professional development; developing the important ethical and legal values for a doctor's profession, and as a result of national health care, preparing the qualified personnel with the modern knowledge for the internal and external educational and labour market, who is ready to meet the challenges of high competitions and use of new technologies; providing with the possibility of own potential implementation at the labour market in the rapidly developing field, employment at the junior doctor’s position with an independent medical practitioner, and engagement in the pedagogical and scientific activities; providing students with the possibility to continue the doctoral studies or take the residency course and perform own professional activities after passing the Unified State Exams, in particular, to ensure the protection, preservation and improvement of human health with the use of country’s medical standards and ethical norms.
City at a Glance
Tbilisi lies in the centre of eastern Georgia, in the foothills of the Trialeti mountain range. According to Georgian legends, it was founded in the 5th century by King Vakhtang Gorgasali who, while hunting, shot a pheasant which fell into a warm spring and was either boiled or healed. Either way, the king was inspired to found a city on the site, and the name of the city derives from the Georgian word tbili meaning "warm".
Tbilisi has cool winters and warm summers. There is very little rain. It rains only 70 days per year. It is common to snow in Tbilisi in the beginning of the year. Most rain falls on the summer months. Summers in Tbilisi can get very hot, with the record high being 42°C, winters can get cold with the record low being -24.4°C.
Tbilisi is very safe after the Rose Revolution. The police system was reformed completely and the recent polls show that public's trust in police shifted from nearly 10% to 88%. The police are usually quick to respond, though usually only Georgian and Russian are spoken. While walking is generally fine, even for solo women, it makes sense to take a bus or taxi home at night. Use common sense and big-city awareness. Night time at the clubs and bars is safe, and taxi service is safe as long as it's a company taxi like "009" or others. The public bus is also a good, safe option for 0.50 lari.

Beeline: russian company, the cheapest of all sim cards, but does not get the best reception in some areas. buy a sim card at the office on Rustaveli Avenue or Ortachala international bus station (help-line number for Beeline mobile: 110101 from Georgia).
Tbilisi International Airport (IATA: TBS) is 17km southeast of the city centre. A new, modern terminal was inaugurated in 2007. There are ATMs, multiple SIM card vendors, a CIP lounge, and free Wi-Fi (Silknet) in the airport. George W. Bush Avenue leads from the airport to downtown Tbilisi.
