Privolzhsky Research Medical University (Research Medical University of Volga region, Russian: Приволжский исследовательский медицинский университет, old-name: Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy, NNSMA) is one of the medical schools in the Russian Federation which is located in the city of Nizhny Novgorod

Fundamental medical sciences such as medical biology, biophysics, general chemistry and organic chemistry, history of medicine, human anatomy, and so on are taught in the first academic year of the General Medicine course. As a result of the foregoing, the course lasts longer (a 6-year programme) than General Medicine courses (5-year programmes) given by other institutions in other countries.

Clinical education begins with the so-called "cycles" in the third academic year. Students cycle through many areas of clinical medicine every few weeks, including Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Infectious Diseases, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Neurology, Orthopedics, Radiology, and Public Health. The classes are then held in several specialised hospitals around the Nizhny Novgorod region.

Besides Russian students, there are also students from foreign countries such as Morocco, Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Mauritius, Kenya, Tanzania, Jordan, Pakistan, Namibia and many others who study in this academy. Some of the foreign students study medicine completely in English medium, and some others study in Russian language. The current Dean of the Foreign Students Department is Professor Stelnikova D.Sc., who is also the Head of the Department for anatomy.

Each hostel has a canteen and a cafe, as well as a kitchen and a dining hall on each level. With sporting facilities such as a sports complex with a gymnasium, indoor football, badminton, tennis, volleyball, athletic stadiums, and more, the academy serves as a springboard for athletes. For international students, a variety of social and cultural events are planned. To bring students from various nations together, national and international student organisations are being formed.

Russia (Russian: Россия) is the largest country in the world, covering more than one-eighth of the Earth's inhabited land area, spanning Eastern Europe and northern Asia.

Russia's territory stretches over continents of Europe and Asia and has therefore many different climate zones. From the subtropical Black sea coast to the Far Eastern regions including southern parts of Siberia, there is mostly continental climate, with hot summers enabling outdoor swimming in rivers, lakes and hiking, and cold winters with a lot of snow, a paradise for ski holidays.

The greatest amazing thing about Russia is, given its immense size, without a doubt the diversity of climate zones, and the weather extremes. In the summer months June to late August Siberia get sub-Saharan temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius or more, vegetation is lush and pleasant. You will definitely need lots of sunscreen. Another positive side of the continental climate in the summer is that the weather can stay hot for weeks on end, interrupted only by an occasional rain shower. Summer days in June/July in northern Russia are extremely long, with the sun going down at 11 pm or in some regions not at all.

Winters, November to March, are cold almost everywhere, with lots of snow, except in the southern part of the country where little to no snow comes by every year. If you do not take appropriate precautions, you can very quickly get a frostbite. Depending on where you go, take a note of the weather and equip yourself with adequate clothing. The outside temperature in the European part of Russia rarely gets below - 15 Celsius, but can drop even lower at night.
