About Medical University
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) was established in 1986. The only university of its kind at that time, it started it's journey on the 13th of February 1991 with only three departments: Physics, Chemistry and Economics, 13 teachers and 205 students. It has now expanded to 7 schools, 27 departments , 2 institutes and and centers. The number of teachers has grown to 552 and the students to 10922. Besides, the University has 13 affiliated colleges under the School of Medical Sciences with 4000 students.
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) is a public research university situated in Sylhet, Bangladesh. Shahjahal University of Science and Technology is also one of the pioneers in the industry to implement the credit system used in American Universities to bring the students at par with the rest of the world. One of the most distinguished feature for Shahjahal University of Science 7 Technology is that it offers Ph.D. programs to the students.
The Government of Bangladesh had formulated the University Act and by virtue of the same act in 1986, the Shahjahal University of Science & Technology was established. The university has been conferred with various titles like specialized institute for Science & Technology by virtue of the versatile faculties available at the University. Kumargaon, almost 15 minutes drive away from the heart of Syllhet City Centre is the location of Shahjahal University of Science & Technology.
In the early days, there were only three departments - Physics, Economics & Chemistry; instituted in the curriculum for the students. Later, the number of faculties offered was increased and help the students to acquire the skill-set for building a better future. SUST is also one of those few university, who have offered free Wifi to the students and encourage them to explore the advancements in their subject across the globe.

SUST also welcomes foreign students. There are a significant number of international students, especially from Nepal. There are also some students in its affiliated medical college from India. Every year SUST receives applications from abroad. Most international students come from Nepal, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan, Japan, Afghanistan, Thailand, Malaysia, Palestine, China, and Myanmar.
The students of this university participate in sports for recreation and the finest athletes regularly compete in inter-university games like football, handball, volleyball, basketball etc. SUST has some varsity teams. There is a Cricket ground, a Football ground, a Basketball ground and well equipped gymnasium adjacent to the university student health center. SUST is the only university to have Professional Cricket League and Professional Football League. Students organize both inter-department and inter-university tournaments for popular games every year. Girls and teachers also participate in several games.
Since the day of its establishment, the university has trained thousands of students from various parts of the world along with Bangladesh. This has led the University to acquire the status of a World-Class Education Centre and has contributed to the formation of a stable career path for thousands of students now. The alumni network keeps in regular touch with the faculties and help the newcomers to get industry exposure at an early stage.

Hostel And Mess Facilities available at Shah Jalal University Of Science Technology
University has a very good hostel campus with free Wifi access. Accommodations for students are available as singles, doubles and triples. Additionally, there are separate hostels for women and men. All hostels are furnished with beds, chairs, tables, and other necessary items. Facilities within the campus include a supermarket, a clinic, a pharmacy, etc. The hostel is monitored by CCTV 24 hours a day. For Indian students on campus, Mess is also available. All students are subject to strict hostel rules. The hostel also serves Indian food.
