Siberian State Medical University (SibMed) is among the TOP-3 best medical universities in Russia. In 2017 SibMed obtained the status of the only flagship medical university in Russia. Moreover, the University was selected by the Government of the Russian Federation to take part in the implementation of the project aimed at increasing education exports in Russia. Remarkably, SibMed is one of the 2  specialized universities selected to work on this project.


SibMed is one of the few institutions in Russia that has its multidisciplinary university hospital. This affects the teaching  staff  and student body to a large extent. The teaching staff consists of 80%  of specialists with academic degrees and titles and 50% practicing doctors. Our students have a unique opportunity to apply the knowledge gained in the classroom at the clinics. What is more, the university hospital is not only the place where research and education are conducted but also it welcomes more than 100 thousand patients from all over  Russia annually.


In addition to the multidisciplinary hospital, SibMed students can receive training at the modern simulation center, which is one of the two centers in the Russian Federation that has received accreditation from the European Society for Simulation in Medicine (SESAM).

The Research Library of the Siberian State Medical University is the only publicly accessible medical library in the Tomsk Region, the largest specialized library in Siberia. It is regarded to be the best library in Russia among medical universities under the annual libraries ranking compiled by the Academy of Evidence-Based Medicine in 2016.

In 2015 SibMed became the first medical university in Russia to be accredited by the Skolkovo Technopark.

IHSM students are coming from different countries with their own distinct cultures, perspectives, and lifestyles. The main goal of the faculty and administration is to help them get accustomed to the new environment. Sometimes simple information about housing, food, shopping, postal and bank services is essential to keep students well functioning.

IHSM provides the opportunity to live in school dormitories and rent apartments. However, we advise to choose dormitory options for students of the first years of studies. Although modern connection capabilities highly depend on internet, postal and courier services they are still important. Many courier and postal services are available to transfer documental and non-documental goods. Along with the well-established EMS postal service, others like DHL, Express have always been available. IHSM students can receive any postal correspondence and any other messages delivered to the IHSM headquarters, which dispatch them safely to the addressees.

Hostel And Mess Facilities available at Siberian State Medical University

University has a very good hostel campus with free Wifi access. Accommodations for students are available as singles, doubles and triples. Additionally, there are separate hostels for women and men. All hostels are furnished with beds, chairs, tables, and other necessary items. Facilities within the campus include a supermarket, a clinic, a pharmacy, etc. The hostel is monitored by CCTV 24 hours a day. For Indian students on campus, Mess is also available. All students are subject to strict hostel rules. The hostel also serves Indian food.

Climate
Russia's territory stretches over continents of Europe and Asia and has therefore many different climate zones. From the subtropical Black sea coast to the Far Eastern regions including southern parts of Siberia, there is mostly continental climate, with hot summers enabling outdoor swimming in rivers, lakes and hiking, and cold winters with a lot of snow, a paradise for ski holidays.

The greatest amazing thing about Russia is, given its immense size, without a doubt the diversity of climate zones, and the weather extremes. In the summer months June to late August Siberia get sub-Saharan temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius or more, vegetation is lush and pleasant. You will definitely need lots of sunscreen. Another positive side of the continental climate in the summer is that the weather can stay hot for weeks on end, interrupted only by an occasional rain shower. Summer days in June/July in northern Russia are extremely long, with the sun going down at 11pm or in some regions not at all.

Winters, November to March, are cold almost everywhere, with lots of snow, except in the southern part of the country where little to no snow comes by every year. If you do not take appropriate precautions, you can very quickly get a frostbite. Depending on where you go, take a note of the weather and equip yourself with adequate clothing. The outside temperature in the European part of Russia rarely gets below - 15 Celsius, but can drop even lower at night.
