Overview 

St. Luke's College of Medicine - William H. Quasha Memorial (SLCM-WHQM) is a tertiary medical school in Quezon City, Philippines. It is situated behind the St. Luke's Medical Center, the base hospital of the college. The medical school was established in 1994. On June 1997, the 14-storey College of Medicine building which hosts the medical school was completed. The school opened its scholarship program in 2005. 


History 

St. Luke’s Medical Center College of Medicine – William H. Quasha Memorial (SLMCCM-WHQM) is one of the 44 medical schools in the Philippines. Established in 1994 as the medical school of the St. Luke’s Medical Center (est. 1903), it offers a 5-year Curriculum leading to the degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD), assuring a one-year internship program at the Medical Center. SLCM-WHQM is duly accredited by the Commission on Higher Education. SLCM-WHQM consists of Basic and Clinical Departments with a full complement of faculty and staff. As of SY 2015-2016, there are 538 students enrolled from first to fifth year. 


The 14-storey College of Medicine building, completed in June 1997, has air-conditioned classrooms and conference/lecture halls with audio-visual devices. The College has 5 basic science laboratories, a Skills-Training Laboratory, Behavioral Science Laboratory and a mock Operating Room. The Library has been designed to nurture a person’s inclination to learn as comfortable as possible. It has a computer section complete with internet facilities aside from the WiFi access available in the Library. At the Penthouse is an Auditorium which serves as a venue for large student and faculty conferences and activities of the College as well as events of the Medical Center. Three elevators ease access to all floor levels. 


SLCM follows the integrated basic and clinical sciences curriculum spread over a 5-year course. Medical Clerkship and Internship programs are provided at the St. Luke’s Medical Center with affiliations in local specialty hospitals to expose students to a wide variety of patients, and clinical facilities. In the Community Medicine program, students have the opportunity to rotate in various identified Community Medicine centers in our vicinity. St Luke’s Medical Center (SLMC) is the base hospital for the College. 


SLMC is the first hospital in the Philippines and second in Asia that is accredited by the Joint Commission for International Accreditation (JCIA), the foreign arm for the USA’s Joint Commission for Accreditation of Hospital Organizations (JCAHO). The St. Luke’s Medical Center is an international affiliate of the New York Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University and the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, all in the USA. St. Luke’s College of Medicine and the St. Luke’s Medical Center have been host to several medical students from the University of Hawaii and the University of Alberta in Canada who opted to have their electives rotation with the College and the Medical Center. 


SLCM has an active Faculty Development Program which includes sponsorship of faculty members to scholarships in relevant graduate studies of their choice. Student and faculty research, in close collaboration with the Research and Biotechnology Division of SLMC, is encouraged and fostered through generous funding assistance. Grants for Professorial Chairs are also available to the Faculty. St. Luke’s College of Medicine – WHQM is located at Cathedral Heights along Sta. Ignaciana St, which crosses E. Rodriquez Ave. in Quezon City just behind St. Luke’s Medical Center. The College can be accessed through three main routes, namely, through St. Luke’s Medical Center, through Trinity University, or by way of Sct. Reyes St. in the Roxas/Roces district coming from the Quezon Ave. area.

The campus contains five air-conditioned lecture halls, as well as smaller classrooms and discussion rooms. The five basic science laboratories can be used to perform dissections, slide microscopy, and experiments. The skills training laboratory is equipped with models and simulators for the development and refinement of medical skills. The behavioral science laboratory features a tinted mirror and allows the students to learn the skills of a psychiatric exam. A mock operating room is also available for students to practice surgical skills.

Student Council
As an organization that works for the students and by the students, the St. Luke’s Medicine Student Council (SLMSC) stands as the primary representative body of the students of St. Luke’s Medicine College of Medicine (SLMCCM) in all relevant aspects of student-life inside and outside the institution. It is an organization that provides avenues for the students of SLMCCM to air their voices to authorities and the general public, to hone their skills and passions as individuals, and to prime holistic student development by bringing forth the conceptualization and execution of projects relevant to these undertakings. At the same time, the SLMSC also serves as a bridge for communication between the administration, the student body, and everyone else in between. This year the Student Council drives its service with the goal of inclusive, genuine, transparent, consultative, and student-centered lead

Climate
The climate is tropical, with March to May (summer) being the hottest months. The rainy season starts in June and extends through October with strong typhoons possible. The coolest months are from November to February, with mid-January to end of February considered the best for cooler and drier weather. Locations exposed directly to the Pacific Ocean have frequent rainfall all year. This includes the popular Pagsanjan Falls southeast of Manila (though the falls will get you wet regardless). The average temperatures range from 78°F / 25°C to 90°F / 32°C, and humidity is around 77 percent. Baguio, which is branded as the summer capital of the Philippines, tends to be cooler due to its being located in mountainous regions with temperatures at night going below 20°C (68°F). During summer, the country experience droughts, sometimes at extreme conditions.

Documents Required for MBBS Admission

Eligibility Criteria for MBBS Admission

  • Minimum Educational Qualification: - 10 + 2 years of education

  • Minimum Age: - 18 years

  • Candidates applying for medical courses must fulfill all the requirements listed in the guidelines of the Medical Council of India ( MCI).
