Manipal College of Medical Sciences (MCOMS), affiliated to Kathmandu University was set up at Pokhara in 1994 with an MBBS program. It was the first private institution to establish a medical college in Nepal. Further to this, the 750 bed Manipal Teaching Hospital (MTH), Pokhara commenced in 1998. The college and hospital have been set up with modern facilities for modern education and health delivery.

Manipal College of Medical Sciences (MCOMS), Nepal provides a unique environment for students to pursue their dreams of a career in medicine with the added advantage of international exposure. MCOMS has students from various countries including India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bangladesh, Singapore, Thailand, Middle East, Kenya, South Africa, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, and is therefore, a cross-cultural hub of activity. About 55% of the students are men and 45% women. The faculty has been largely drawn from reputed institutions in India and Nepal. There are experienced teachers who strive to instill the right spirit and traditions.
Heads of Departments and Director Academics ensure all-round academic excellence, and all-round development of students. Fortnightly tests are conducted to measure the performance of the students and Dean’s counseling of each individual student is done at least once in a semester – reports of which are forwarded to their parents. Students are also required to undergo additional 4 to 6 hours of self-study every day, 330 days in a year in an integrated fashion to ensure they perform well in their examinations. The renowned faculty at MCOMS ensure that each student receives adequate attention and mentorship to guide them towards a successful medical career.
Education at MCOMS is not just about books and classrooms, but also about overall personality development and honing special skills. Apart from gaining an internationally recognized medical degree, a student graduates with a competitive edge over the others, which is a necessity in today’s world.
There is a great deal of interaction between students and faculty even after college hours. Groups of 5-7 students are formed and are put under direct supervision of a faculty under the mentorship scheme, which ensures all round student welfare and academic excellence. We celebrate most festivals together. ‘Expressions’, the main social event at MCOMS consists of diverse sports and cultural events. MCOMS provides a four-and-a-half-years MBBS degree program in all the preclinical subjects and selected clinical subjects. The four-and-a-half years MBBS course is divided into 9 semesters of 6 months each. Upon successful completion of the course, students will undergo a 1 year compulsory residential rotating internship. The medium of instruction is English.
Approx. 1700 students have passed out of MOCMS till date & most of these graduates have successfully qualified for USMLE (USA), PLAB (UK), ERPM (Sri-Lanka), AMC (Australia) with commendable scores and also completed their post-graduation in USA, Canada, UK, South Africa & Australia.
