School Profile 

The School of Medicine Universidad Central Del Este San Pedro Macoris Dominican Republic emerged with the creation of the university, as a fundamental part of its philosophy, in order to guarantee the training of qualified human resources in the health area, who respond to the individual requirements, the Dominican community and others countries. In its more than 40 years of operation, the graduates of the UCE School of Medicine have been characterized by their ability in technical, scientific and social aspects, which allow them to correctly carry out prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation procedures health problems. 


The curriculum of the School of Medicine presents a combined model consisting of an undergraduate level of Pre-Medical and a graduate level consisting of Basic Sciences, Clinical Sciences and Rotating Internship. This program is established according to the norms and procedures of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT). The Pre-Medical is the level that is composed of all the Natural Sciences, English, Spanish, Behavioral Sciences, Social Sciences and other courses that allow the integral formation of the student and the maximum use of the subjects of the graduate level of the program. 


The subsequent cycles are designed to equip the student with fundamental knowledge of Medicine Sciences, training him in the management of techniques and methodologies for the evaluation of biological functions, the approach to clinical, health, socio-economic problems, cultural and the ecology of their social and work environment, among others. The career lasts for 5 years including the Rotary Internship. The clinical practices are carried out in the teaching hospitals owned by the university in Santo Domingo and San Pedro de Macorís, as well as in public hospitals through agreements established between the University and the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MISPAS).

General Information

The Central University of the East with a view to complying with the international standards of educational quality of the School of Medicine is in the process of accreditation with the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education In Medicine and Other Health Professions (CAAM-HP), recognized by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). 


Obtaining this accreditation will allow students and graduates to optimize the Medical Education Program and achieve to take the medical license exam in international jurisdictions, with the highest quality standards that train them in professional skills according to the demands of the 21st century and position themselves successfully. 


The UCE began its accreditation process in 2017, constantly training its officers for these processes at the international level and the School's management together with the Rectory, participating in trainings in various places including Barbados and Trinidad Tobago, among others.
