About University
The Technological University of Santiago (UTESA), arises as a result of the interpretation of a group of professionals who visualized the need for a new educational order at a time when the country required qualified personnel in technical and professional areas. In response to these needs, protected by the Founding Board and in its Academic Regulations, on November 12, 1974 this Educational Institution began its formal work, acquiring its legal status on April 19, 1976, through Executive Power Decree No. 1944 .
The technological nature with which it was conceived guided the creation of technical level careers, linked to Economic and Social Sciences. Open, since its inception, to a population that was already inserted in the different productive sectors of the Region, it was the first private university in the Dominican Republic to offer night hours.
On June 17, 1978, through Decree 3432 of the Executive Power, he received authorization to issue academic degrees with the same force and validity as those of other official or autonomous institutions of the same category. In 1979, responding to new demands, its curricular offer was expanded; for the development of the Health Sciences Career, with the advice of the North American Universities of Ohio, South Carolina and Grenada. In 1983, the Technological University of Santiago established its first extension in the city of Santo Domingo de Guzmán.
Based on this experience, steps are being taken to create new extensions in other parts of the country; Indeed, in 1986, acceding to the demands of representative personalities of each place, the Mao, Moca and Puerto Plata Precincts were opened. Currently UTESA, in a process of permanent growth, is receiving an average of 5,000 new students every four months between the Headquarters and the four Campus: Santo Domingo, Mao, Moca and Puerto Plata.
Regarding the number of teachers, the University has been experiencing constant growth, currently approaching 1,000 teachers, most of whom have completed postgraduate studies. The above statistics make the Technological University of Santiago, UTESA, the largest private university in the country. To achieve the purposes defined in the academic programs, the University is integrated into the national and international organizations that group the institutions of higher education in the Region and worldwide, among which the Dominican Association of Universities (ADOU) stand out. , Universities of the Caribbean (UNICA),
The Union of Latin American Universities (UDUAL), the Pan American Association of Universities, The Inter-American University Council for Economic and Social Development (CUIDES), The Ibero-American Postgraduate University Association (AUIP), The International Association of University Presidents (IAUP), among others. Starting in 1992, UTESA under the auspices of the Inter-American Development Bank and the APEC Foundation for Educational Credit, FUNDAPEC expanded its curricular offer by starting the School of Technology and Engineering that operates at the Santiago de los Caballeros Headquarters and the Santo Domingo de Guzmán and Puerto Plata.
In 1983, the University-Company Unit was created, developing the following projects: Meat Processing Plant (PRODECAR-UTESA), Agricultural Research and University Development (AIDU-UTESA), Poultry Research and Development Farm (GAIDU-UTESA), Center for Specialized Services (CEDESE). In addition, the Utesa English School (UES) and the Utesian College of Integrated Studies (CUEI-UTESA) were opened for the Headquarters and the Precincts.
