The University of Mauritius (UoM) (French: Université de Maurice) is the national university of Mauritius. It is the oldest and largest university in the country in terms of student enrollment and curriculum offered. The public university's main campus is located at Réduit, Moka. The University of Mauritius was officially established by the University of Mauritius Ordinance in December 1965, incorporating the existing School of Agriculture.

Overview 

The University of Mauritius (UoM) (French: Université de Maurice) is the national university of Mauritius. It is the oldest and largest university in the country in terms of student enrollment and curriculum offered. The public university's main campus is located at Réduit, Moka. History The University of Mauritius was officially established by the University of Mauritius Ordinance in December 1965, incorporating the existing School of Agriculture. 


In 1971, the University of Mauritius Act further defined the objects, powers, functions and structure of the university. On 24 March 1972, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, inaugurated the University of Mauritius. The first chancellor of the university of Mauritius was Her Royal Highness the Princess Alexandra, the Honourable Lady Ogilvy.

General Information
Set in the lush greenery of the University of Mauritius and the sleek interiors at the Core building, the newly formed Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) seeks to position itself as a quality provider of medical and health science education nationally and regionally.

The Faculty puts a strong emphasis on quality education and research. We are geared towards the total development of students and preparing them to be competent autonomous health service providers as well as team players. Housing two main departments, the Department of Medicine and The Department of Health Sciences, the new faculty aims to contribute to the advancement of health and the progress of the country through innovative curricular approaches, effective health care services and relevant research work.

The Students’ center includes the Common room, the Ex-EOY, the Games room, the Music room and a sports office is a convivial space, open to students as well as staff for recreational purposes- from 09hrs to 18hrs00: Monday to Friday- 09hrs00 to 16hrs00 on Saturdays.

Each and every one enjoy board games such as Domino, Chess, Carrom, Dart, Playing Cards, and Scrabble. Pool and Baby foot tables are also available.

With the arrival of the new Sports officer, the organization of the indoor tournaments could be well organised and framed with rules and regulations. Despite of the lack of sports infrastructures, arrangements were made with other sports institutions so as to organize activities like football, badminton tournaments, swimming and annual sports day. Other sports tournaments like volleyball, basketball, tennis were run at the Maryse Justin Sports complex. Prizes were awarded to winners and runners up so as to motivate more students to participate in sports activities.

Eligibility Criteria for Admission at University of Mauritius

  • Candidates must have passed higher secondary examination with Science subjects i.e. Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

  • Candidates must have an aggregate of 50% in PCB or more in your 12th results.

  • Students must be 17 years or more for medical education in this university.

  • All Indian students going to study MBBS abroad have to qualify NEET exams.

Admission Process at University of Mauritius
  • Step 1: Complete the online application provided by the University. or Fill out the course registration form from our website then we will be doing all the below steps .

  • Step 2: Print out the application. Send the signed form along with the required documents listed below to the university.

  • Step 3: Scan the documents and email them to the admissions office with a subject line of 'Application for Admission' in the body of the email.

  • Step 4: Documents can be submitted only until the application deadline. Be sure to submit all documents before the final submission date.

  • Step 5: After verification of the student's documents by Medical University, the University will send the student the acceptance or rejection letter accordingly.

  • Step 6: Payment of initial fees should be done once the candidate is accepted. Upon receiving the acknowledgment letter, the student will receive their fee.

  • Step 7: Students have to do the following documentation translation, apostle attestation of the basic documents of education. 

  • Step 7: If the applicant has been accepted, they must immediately apply for a student visa . University will mail students their Invitation letters.

Hostel And Mess Facilities available at University of Mauritius

University has a very good hostel campus with free Wifi access. Accommodations for students are available as singles, doubles and triples. Additionally, there are separate hostels for women and men. All hostels are furnished with beds, chairs, tables, and other necessary items. Facilities within the campus include a supermarket, a clinic, a pharmacy, etc. The hostel is monitored by CCTV 24 hours a day. For Indian students on campus, Mess is also available. All students are subject to strict hostel rules. The hostel also serves Indian food.

Mauritius has only two seasons, winter and summer. There is not much temperature difference between the two seasons of the year. The climate on the central plateau is cooler than on the coastal areas.
