David Tvildiani Medical University (Aieti High Medical School until 2011) has been operating since the 1992-1993 academic year. The idea of its establishment is connected with the idea of the necessity of international cooperation in education in general and medical education in particular;

It is well known that the establishment of a new medical school gives its founders a unique opportunity to influence the medical education system; Educate professionals who will successfully handle all the functions of a future doctor. At the same time, without its own, clearly defined philosophical basis in medical education, the medical school is rapidly transformed into a routine performer of traditional activities; It is also important to note that deviating from these principles leads to long-term "depression" in medical education. In this regard, the organization of the teaching process management, moreover, its successful implementation is of great importance; 

Therefore, along with the main question of the educational institution - "what to teach", it is important to define "how to teach"; The first achievements of the graduates, the recognition of the results of their work (study), including internationally, confirmed the belief of the authors of "Aiet" and its members of the academic community that only joint and purposeful work is achieved by the "visions" of universities and students' "dreams". Realization. At the same time, the first years of the university were the most difficult - the members of the DTSU academic community showed remarkable resilience in a country that was an arena of political controversy in a state of civil war, without electricity, heating, food; All of the above problems were answered by teaching and learning development. 

The opinion of the DTSU academic community and its management is still unchanged: the country, its universities and society at large must respond to all the challenges it faces in this way. This foundation was embedded in the foundation of DTSU during that period (the first decade of the university's development) and became a guide for future generations. However, the above does not fully mean that he lived with corporate interests or based on a closed system, he always had fans who, with the help, support and support of the university, supported the university in educating the younger generation of doctors. 

These are primarily Georgian medical institutions, scientific research institutes and Georgian universities; DTSU is very careful and appreciates this support. It is the University of Klaipeda (Lithuania), the University of Charles Gradec Kralov, Cologne, and other universities that help DTSU students and PhD students in their professional growth and advancement. The establishment and development of authorization and accreditation processes in Georgia played an important role in the further development of the University (the University met with authorized and accredited programs at the end of the second decade of its activity); 

The most important opportunity for the third decade of the University's activity was the opportunity to participate in the EU-funded Erasmus + (formerly Tempus) Grant Competition for Private Law Universities (DTSU) (ePBLnet, PACT); Which gave him new partners and experience, the opportunity and commitment to fully share the knowledge, as well as the experience gained through his own research for partner and / or interested universities. 

This is an opportunity created by the Shota Rustaveli National Foundation for the country (including DTSU) to discuss the evaluation of scientific research (in the framework of a grant competition) in an international expert context. It is from these years that the University becomes a member of all European and international professional formats (AMEE, AMSE, EBMA, ORPHEUS, UEMS, EUA) of interest for its development. 

The university has 476 graduates. Currently, 884 Georgian and foreign students study in the field of graduate physician, graduate physician e-PD and doctoral programs; The University has 271 academic, administrative, other teaching and research support staff; There are 7 departments: 5 combines 39 disciplines (directions) in different modules to provide 74 training courses; As well as to provide training in the research and clinical skills of the departments. 

Currently, DTSU, as well as the Georgian state and its medical education system as a whole, is facing new challenges: internationalization has become an important driver of higher education; It has become both a challenge and an opportunity for medical schools around the world, including Georgia.
