Overview 

The University was founded by the order of the Minister of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated May 23, 1996 No. 143 on the basis of the Ch.Ch. Valikhanov Kokshetau Pedagogical Institute , an agricultural institute and a branch of the Karaganda Polytechnic Institute. By the order of the Committee for State Property and Privatization of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated May 27, 2020 No. 319, “Sh.Ualikhanov Kokshetau State University” was reorganized into the non-profit joint-stock company “Sh.Ualikhanov Kokshetau University”.

Sh. Ualikhanov Kokshetau State University is a modern education institution founded in 1962 located in the city of Kokshetau, Kazakhstan. The university offers multilevel programs in various specialties which include a bachelor’s degree (65 specialties), a master’s degree (30 specialties), a doctoral degree (6 specialties) in the areas of natural science and General Medicine.


The university was renamed after the Sh. Ualikhanov who was one of the great Kazakh scientists, historian, ethnographer, geographer, translator and traveler. History of University 

On July 25, 1962, by the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the KSSR No. 563, the Kokchetav Pedagogical Institute was opened. These were the years of the development of virgin and fallow lands: the population of rural areas of the region grew, new state farms were created, old ones were reorganized. 


Every year, with the beginning of the development of virgin lands, more and more eight-year and secondary schools were opened, an acute shortage of teachers arose. The growing need of the Kokchetav region for teaching staff with higher education could not be satisfied by the nearby pedagogical institutes: Kustanai, Petropavlovsk, as well as the capital - KazPI named after Abai and ZhenPI.


 In the first years of work of the reorganized university, the educational process was improved and modernized. One of the first in the republic, the university began to introduce a three-level education system, opening a magistracy in 1998. Since 2000, the university switched to a rating system for assessing the effectiveness of educational and methodological work. For all disciplines, a base of test items was developed, which were used to control knowledge of various levels. 


Since 2003, training on credit technology began. In 2005, one of the first universities among universities, the university introduced a quality management system and successfully passed certification for compliance with international standards ISO 9001-2000. In 2012, according to the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan (dated April 28, 2012, No. 544), the Republican State Treasury Enterprise "Kokshetau State University named after Sh. Ualikhanov "of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan was reorganized into the Republican State Enterprise on the right of economic management" Kokshetau State University named after Sh. Ualikhanov " of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. From December 2012 to July 2014, the rector of the university was Doctor of Economics, Professor Elyubaev Sagintay Zekenovich. Since July 2014, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Abdumutalip Abzhapparovich Abzhapparov was appointed the rector of the university. Since 2018, the university has been headed by the candidate of economic sciences Marat Kadiruly Syrlybayev. By order of the Committee for State Property and Privatization of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated May 27, 2020 No. 319, RSE on REM “Kokshetau State University named after Sh.Ualikhanov "was reorganized into the non-profit joint-stock company" Kokshetau University named after Sh.Ualikhanov ".
