Semmelweis University is a leading institution of higher education in Hungary and the Central European region within the area of medicine and health sciences. Its main commitment is based on the integrity of education, research and healing, which make Semmelweis University an internationally renowned center of knowledge. As a specialist university, it holds a unique place within the country; its prominent role is demonstrated by the fact that approximately 42 percent of Hungary’s doctors, 70 percent of its dentists, 50 percent of its pharmacists and 27 percent of its health care professionals are Semmelweis graduates.
A truly international community, programmes are offered in three languages (Hungarian, English, German), and international students account for nearly a third of the around 11,000 students studying at the University’s six faculties. In addition to teaching, Semmelweis University is the largest provider of health care services in Hungary. Even though practical teaching takes place at the university’s clinics and hospitals, they provide the highest quality patient care services at the same time.
Most of the departments cater for the most serious cases and patients requiring complex treatment, thus making the university a national health care provider. Research, development, and innovation comprise an important part of the University’s three-fold mission. The target of research at the university are early diagnostics and therapy, disease prevention and active ageing. Currently, there are 300 research groups at the university including 31 international and 94 Hungarian research grants.
Many of its professors are members of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, with close collaboration between the two institutions in numerous areas. Semmelweis University received the prestigious Research University title for the second time in 2013. Sometimes simple information about housing, food, shopping, postal and bank services is essential to keep students well functioning.
IHSM provides the opportunity to live in school dormitories and rent apartments. However, we advise to choose dormitory options for students of the first years of studies. Although modern connection capabilities highly depend on internet, postal and courier services they are still important. Many courier and postal services are available to transfer documental and non-documental goods. Along with the well-established EMS postal service, others like DHL, Express have always been available. IHSM students can receive any postal correspondence and any other messages delivered to the IHSM headquarters, which dispatch them safely to the addressees.

Hostel And Mess Facilities available at Semmelweis University Hungary
University has a very good hostel campus with free Wifi access. Accommodations for students are available as singles, doubles and triples. Additionally, there are separate hostels for women and men. All hostels are furnished with beds, chairs, tables, and other necessary items. Facilities within the campus include a supermarket, a clinic, a pharmacy, etc. The hostel is monitored by CCTV 24 hours a day. For Indian students on campus, Mess is also available. All students are subject to strict hostel rules. The hostel also serves Indian food.
