About School 

Soochow University is located in Suzhou, a famous historical and cultural city known as "paradise on earth". It is a national "double first-class" construction university and the first batch of universities to be listed in the "211 Project" and "2011 Plan". The Bureau of Science and Technology and Jiangsu Province jointly established a university, and it is also a key comprehensive university in Jiangsu Province. The predecessor of Soochow University was Soochow University (Soochow University, founded in 1900), which pioneered modern higher education and blended the essence of Chinese and Western cultures. It was the first university in China to be organized with a modern university discipline system. 

In the history of higher education in China, Soochow University was the first university to develop postgraduate education and grant a master's degree, and was the first to develop professional education in law (English-American law). It was also the first university to establish a journal. In 1952, the departments of the mainland of China were adjusted. Soochow University's School of Arts and Science, Sunan Culture and Education College, and the Department of Mathematics and Physics of Jiangnan University merged to form Sunan Normal University, which was renamed Jiangsu Normal University in the same year. In 1982, the school was renamed Soochow University (Soochow University). Afterwards, Suzhou Sericulture College (1995), Suzhou Institute of Silk Technology (1997) and Suzhou Medical College (2000) were merged into Soochow University.

The school currently has 132 undergraduate majors, 49 first-level discipline master's programs, 33 professional degree master's programs; 28 first-level discipline doctoral programs, 1 professional doctoral program, and 30 post-doctoral mobile stations; the school currently has 1 country First-class disciplines, 4 national key disciplines, 20 superior disciplines of Jiangsu universities, and 9 key disciplines of Jiangsu Province during the 13th Five-Year Plan.
