School Profile 

Three Gorges University was approved by the Ministry of Education and was formed by the merger of the former Wuhan University of Water Conservancy and Electric Power (Yichang) and the former Hubei Three Gorges University on May 25, 2000. The predecessor of the former Wuhan University of Water Conservancy and Electric Power (Yichang) was the Gezhouba School of Hydropower Engineering, which was established in 1978. It was successively subordinated to the Ministry of Water Resources and Electric Power, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Electric Power Industry, and the State Power Company. 

In 1996, it merged with the original Wuhan University of Water Conservancy and Electric Power to form a new Wuhan University of Water Conservancy and Electric Power has become an important part of the "211 Project" construction university. The original Hubei Three Gorges College was formed by the merger of the original Yichang Teachers College, Yichang Medical College, and Yichang Vocational University in 1996. The school's history can be traced back to 1923. It started to hold undergraduate education in 1978 and was the first batch of bachelor's degree awarding units in the country. It started to hold master's degree education in 1996 and began to train doctoral students in 1998. 

The school enrolls students from 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government and more than 60 countries (regions), and has entered a full-scale enrollment in the whole country. The school has the right to confer doctoral degrees, has the qualifications to recommend excellent undergraduates to study for master's degree without examination, the qualifications for minority preparatory students, the qualifications for enrolling international students and Chinese government scholarship (CSC) students, and the enrollment of undergraduate clinical medicine (English-taught) international students in China The qualifications are exempt from the admission of students in Hong Kong. 

The school is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Water Resources and the People's Government of Hubei Province, and is a university under the "Outstanding Engineer Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education.
