Overview 

Xi'an Jiaotong University is a famous institution of higher learning established in my country first and well-known at home and abroad, and is a key university directly under the Ministry of Education. At the end of the nineteenth century, the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895 was defeated and the nation was in distress. Sheng Xuanhuai, a famous industrialist and educator in modern times, upholds the belief that “ self-reliance is the first to reserve talents, and talents must first start learning ” . In 1896 , Nanyang College was established in Shanghai and named Jiao Tong University in 1921 . 

The school adheres to the mission of " seeking realism and doing business " and emphasizes the goal of " cultivating first-class character, seeking first-class knowledge, creating a first-class career, and becoming a first-class talent " . In the 1920s and 1930s, a famous university with unique " science and engineering management " characteristics was formed , and it was known as the "MIT" of the East . During the Anti-Japanese War, the school moved to the concession, Chongqing, and insisted on running schools in Shanghai and Chongqing. In order to resist foreign aggression, many students took part in the battle and took a bloody battle. On the eve of liberation, teachers and students actively participated in the democratic revolution and liberation struggle, and the school was known as the " fortress of democracy . 

" The school has a national university student cultural quality education base and 167 cultural associations. There are rich and colorful activities in science and technology, literature and art, sports, etc., "Kyushu Masters", "Discussion on the Four Seas", "Siyuan Lecture Hall", "Xueer Forum", "Xingang Report" and "Chuangyuan "Forum" has become a classic brand for teachers and students to broaden their horizons. History 

The towering tree must have its roots, and the water of the mountains must have its source. The predecessor of Xi’an Jiaotong University was Nanyang College, which was founded in Shanghai in 1896; it was placed under the Ministry of Commerce in 1905 and renamed the Higher Industrial School; in 1906, it was renamed the Ministry of Posts and Communication, and renamed the Shanghai Higher Industrial School of the Ministry of Posts and Communication. In 1911, When the Revolution of 1911 broke out, the school was renamed Nanyang University; after the establishment of the Republic of China in 1912, it was placed under the management of the Ministry of Communications, and was renamed Shanghai Technical School of the Ministry of Communications; in 1921, Shanghai Technical School, Tangshan Technical School, Peking Railway Management School, Beiping School of Posts and Telecommunications merged to form Jiaotong University. After the founding of New China, the State Council decided to move the main body of Jiaotong University to Xi'an in 1956 in accordance with the needs of the national economic construction and development strategy. 

It was named Xi'an Jiaotong University in 1959 and was listed as a national key university. Approved by the State Council in April 2000, Xi'an Medical University, Shaanxi University of Finance and Economics and Xi'an Jiaotong University were merged. Medical School Xi'an Jiaotong University is a famous institution of higher learning established in my country first and well-known at home and abroad, and is a key university directly under the Ministry of Education. Its predecessor was Nanyang College, which was founded in Shanghai in 1896. It was renamed Jiaotong University in 1921. In 1956, the State Council decided to move Jiaotong University to Xi'an as part of Jiaotong University. In 1959, it was named Xi'an Jiaotong University. 

In 2000, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an Medical University, and Shaanxi University of Finance and Economics merged to form the new Xi'an Jiaotong University. The school is a key construction unit of the "Seventh Five-Year Plan" and "Eighth Five-Year Plan", and was among the first to enter the national "211" and "985" project construction schools. In 2017, it was selected as a category A construction university in the national "double first-class" construction list, and 8 disciplines were selected as first-class construction disciplines. The school is a comprehensive research university covering 10 disciplines including science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, literature, law, philosophy, teaching, and art.

Medical education is an important part of it. The predecessor of Xi’an Jiaotong University Medical School was the National Beijing Medical College. It was established on October 26, 1912. It was the first national western medical school sponsored by the Chinese government. In 1928, it was renamed Peking University School of Medicine. In 1937, the Anti-Japanese War broke out. In order to resist Japanese aggression, teachers and students moved west to Shaanxi and established the Medical School of Xi'an Provisional University, creating a precedent for higher medical education in Northwest China. After several changes, it was renamed Northwest Medical University in 1950, Xi'an Medical University in 1956, and Xi'an Medical University in 1985. 

In April 2000, Xi'an Medical University merged with Xi'an Jiaotong University and Shaanxi University of Finance and Economics, and was renamed Xi'an Jiaotong University School of Medicine. In June 2012, the medical department of Xi'an Jiaotong University was established. The Faculty of Medicine has basic medical school, the first clinical medical school (the first affiliated hospital), the second clinical medical school (the second affiliated hospital), the school of stomatology (affiliated dental hospital), the school of public health, the school of pharmacy, the school of forensic medicine, and nursing Department of 8 teaching entities; establishment of 6 institutes including the Institute of Translational Medicine, Med-X Institute, Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, Institute of Biological Evidence, Institute of Global Health, and Research Institute of Precision Medicine; established experiments Animal centers, biomedical experimental research centers and other teaching and scientific research institutions. 

The Department of Medicine currently has 7 first-level doctoral degree authorization points in biology, basic medicine, clinical medicine, public health and preventive medicine, pharmacy, stomatology, and nursing, 2 doctoral professional degree authorization points; 8 first-level master degree authorization points Points, 6 authorized points for master's degree. There are 6 first-level post-doctoral research stations, 4 national key disciplines (physiology, forensic medicine, urology and dermatology and venereal disease), 24 national key clinical specialties, and 2 national-level intractable disease diagnosis and treatment capacity improvement projects (Respiratory system diseases and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases), 12 provincial-level key disciplines, 12 provincial-level superior disciplines. 

It has 13 national-level first-class undergraduate courses, 53 national, provincial, and university-level "exquisite courses", 3 national and provincial bilingual demonstration courses, and 5 national and provincial-level excellent teaching teams. Five disciplines including clinical medicine, pharmacology and toxicology, biology and biochemistry, neuroscience and behavior, molecular biology and genetics are among the top 1% of ESI in the world.

 The Faculty of Medicine has strong faculty, with more than 9,400 faculty members, including more than 1,300 with senior professional titles. Among the faculty, there are 8 dual-employed academicians, 30 national-level talents, 2 innovation teams from the Ministry of Education, 4 national "Hundred-Ten Thousand Project" talents, 4 national outstanding teachers, 15 vice-chairmen and members of the National Teaching Steering Committee There are 20 national, provincial and ministerial-level experts with outstanding contributions, 8 provincial-level teaching teachers, and more than 200 experts enjoying special government allowances from the State Council. 

The Department of Medicine offers clinical medicine (five-year system, 5+3 integration, Hou Zonglian medical experimental class and international students), stomatology (five-year system, foreign students), preventive medicine (five-year system), forensic medicine (five-year system), basic 9 majors including medicine (five-year system), nursing, pharmacy, pharmaceutical engineering, clinical pharmacy, etc. 

The clinical medicine major was approved as the first batch of national first-class professional construction sites, and the stomatology, forensic medicine, and nursing majors were approved the first batch of provincial-level majors First-class professional construction point. As of January 2021, the total number of students in the Faculty of Medicine is 7085, including 3,519 undergraduates, 1,000 international students, 861 doctoral students, and 1,705 master students. 

In 2008, the clinical medicine professional teaching reform of "results-oriented, job competence as the core" was launched, and the curriculum integration based on organ-system and problem-oriented teaching were vigorously promoted. Together with the People's Medical Publishing House, the first round of the National Health Commission's "Twelfth Five-Year" clinical medicine professional organ system integration series (28 books) was planned. 

In 2015, Xi'an Jiaotong University, People's Medical Publishing House, and National Medical Examination Center jointly initiated the establishment of the Chinese Medical Integrated Curriculum Alliance. Co-sponsored the establishment of "Northwest Medical Education Alliance", "Western Medical Education Alliance", and "Medical Education Professional Committee of Shaanxi Higher Education Association" with brother colleges to promote the healthy development of medical education and health in the western region. 

The two general clinical hospitals and one dental hospital directly under the Ministry of Medicine are both tertiary and first-class hospitals under the supervision of the National Health Commission. There are more than 5,000 open beds, nearly 5.6 million outpatient visits per year, nearly 300,000 inpatients per year, and 170,000 surgeries per year. In 2017, the "Xi'an Jiaotong University Medical Alliance" was established to help "Healthy China" and "Healthy Shaanxi". 

The Ministry of Medicine has established long-term cooperative relations with medical schools and health institutions in more than ten countries and regions including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Sweden, and Japan. Today’s Ministry of Medicine firmly relies on the advantages of comprehensive universities in the natural sciences and humanities, takes "rooted in the west, serving the country, leading the region, and world-class" as its positioning and goal, and taking the construction of the "Western China Science and Technology Innovation Port" as an opportunity to create a first-class The medical disciplines of the university are striving forward.
